7 Tips to Writing Effective Sales Email
78Email Marketing - An Overview
In addition to your article marketing strategy, Email Marketing can be a very profitable marketing tool if you use it well. But before you start thinking of the email marketing software that you will use, you need to think about the content of your email:
What can you do to write great emails that will make your products sell?
Tip 1. Understand Your Audience
It makes much sense to know the kind of person you are selling to. This not only makes it easy for you to know the benefits to focus on, but also helps you to establish the best tone to write with. Before you begin writing a sales email, ask yourself: who is my ideal customer?
Is it a college student, a lonely teenage girl, a university professor, a struggling internet marketer, or a struggling freelance writer?
Tip 2. Read Other People's Sales Email
Great writers are good readers. Whenever I want to write a newsletter or a sales email, I always try to start my engines by reading blogs and emails from some of the best internet marketers I know. One of my favorite writers is Travis. Reading other people’s sales pitch will help put you in the writing mood and you won’t wander for long trying to get an angle.
Tip 3. Understand the Purpose of the Email
If you are writing an auto-responder sequence, you need to know what you want to achieve with each of the email. You should be able to explain to yourself (and client, if you are writing for someone else,) how that email fits in the bigger picture of your email marketing campaign.
Tip 4. Outline the Benefits
You must give the buyer a why he should buy your product. An established internet market can afford to write all the gibberish that he wants and still get reasonable CTR. On the other hand, a starting marketer MUST present the benefits in an interesting way if at all he wants to avoid the spam button.
Tip 5. Fine-Tune Your Email
Write an email telling them what you want to tell them. Make sure that the tone you adapt is one that will fit into your overall strategy. If you are speaking to surgeons, don’t write as if you are writing to teenage geeks; they might think that you are “insulting” their 12-years college education.
Tip 6. Write A Compelling Headline
You must write compelling headlines if you want guys to open your email. After all, they are probably receiving 20 emails per day from other salesmen who are trying to “con” them.
Let’s assume that you are selling antivirus software. You want to give new users a chance to try it out for only $1 and then buy it if they think it is worth the money ($30 for a one-year license.)
Here are ways you can go about it:
1.) Write a heading with the main benefit
A virus-free computer for only $1
2.) Deal with the recipient’s fears
Someone could be reading your emails
3.) Be vague and make him curious
I don’t think I like you so very much
The third tactic should only be used if you know that your ideal customer will not get offended.
Tip 7. Make Your Links Visible
If you want the reader to take action by going to a certain link, you must make the link visible to him. Don’t let him wonder what the email is all about. Again, this will help you get a response from clients who want long copy and those who love short copy.
This means that you need to insert your link after every major point, say, after every paragraph or two.
Last Word
These 7 tips will make people open your email, read them, and follow you links. But just like with Google AdWords, the ultimate choice of buying will largely depend on the product, price, and landing page.
